ALSO:
The New York Times does its usual snarky and dismissive coverage of protests organized by the left in this piece purporting to provide an overview of the Occupy Wall Street action. The Times has also kindly provided a video here of their ‘man on the street’ interviews with protesters; the clear intent was to edit together the least articulate samples of protesters explaining the ‘demands’ that the media takes joy in saying are ‘unclear’. Teaparty goons express nothing more coherent than “I want my country back” and are credited with giving voice to populist anger over the ‘bad economy’, and yet the left has to enunciate ‘demands’ while the media treats the protesters as even more confused than teabag adorned people who show up at events waving signs proclaiming Obama to be every from a communist, a fascist, a foreigner, to an Islamist, and a socialist. Our side has Cornel West, they’ve got…who?…Dick Armey? C’mon!
Suggestion for Occupy Wall Street activists: In order to gain media understanding and respect, when asked about the ‘demands’ of the occupation, try this: We seek an end to the control that the corporate capitalist imperium exercises over the ostensibly democratic political institutions of the nation. USA!USA!USA!USA!USA!…”
THAT should do it.
